Meet-the-Team

Hi, we’re Ashley Independent House LLP and we’re so excited to finally meet you! What has been months in the making between three best friends has finally come to fruition and I am ecstatic to be the one to introduce you to our team.

At our core, we are each writers, readers, editors, and activists. Each of us has walked a different professional path that has allowed us to converge and bring you Ashley Indie: we’re not just building a business, we’re building a community.

I want to use this blog to introduce you to us individually and tell you a little bit about our professional backgrounds and qualifications; however, I want to start by telling you who we are as an entity. 

Our mission at Ashley Independent House LLP is to champion writers and build a safe space allowing them the freedom to create, grow, and thrive. Ashley Indie is built on a foundation of curiosity and continued learning, and we strive for excellence and inclusion by delivering reliability, innovation, and community.

What Ashley Independent does:

⭐ Builds a community for writers to meet and collaborate with other writers

⭐ Offers professional author services that make space for authors to create

⭐ Creates a place for ARC readers and influencers to champion independent authors

⭐ Provides free resources, templates, and information to the community at large

⭐ Advocates for marginalized stories to be at the forefront where they belong

Now, let me introduce you to our team!

Britton Johnson (she/they)

Community Director

First up, we have our resident independent author, Britton Johnson (she/they). Britton is a twice-published indie romance author, substitute teacher, mom of three, and professional badass. She is a double Cancer (so she cries a lot) and grew up in Oklahoma and Colorado before making her home in Minnesota. Britton also JUST graduated with her Master’s degree, and we couldn’t be more proud!

Professionally, Britton has worn many hats. She has worked in social media management and knows first-hand how important a reader community is to an author. She is currently working on the third book of the Rockies Romance series and serves as our Community Director. If you’re an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) reader and are interested in joining our influencer community, Britton will be the one you connect with! At Ashley Independent House, we are for writers, by writers, and Britton exemplifies that. 

Shai Kathke (she/her)

Marketing Director

Next we have our Marketing Director, Shai (she/her). Shai has a degree in Communications and has worked in Marketing for more than five years, with experience in social media marketing, copy writing, and community management. As our resident Capricorn, she keeps us in line, on topic, and moving forward. Shai runs our social media accounts, designed our gorgeous website, and even took our headshots! She is a creative and, in her free time, loves cuddling with her cats and consuming as much media as she can. 

If you need any help managing your social media accounts, content, or community, Shai will be your best bet. She takes pride in her work, tailoring her strategy for each individual, because she understands that marketing is a moving target. At Ashley Independent House, we want to help you get your work seen (and, let’s face it, bought). 

Elizabeth King (she/her)

Operations Director

Then there’s me. Hi, I’m Elizabeth (she/her), a Scorpio, toddler mom, and reality television enthusiast. I have a degree in Human Services and have spent most of my professional career as an immigration Case Manager. In my day job, I do legal drafting, editing, and lots and lots of admin work. If you need someone to manage your email inbox, forms, event applications, or spreadsheets, I’m your girl. I’m an avid reader (three books at once, always), a book reviewer, and a book collector (three separate hobbies). At Ashley Indie, I am our Operations Director, which basically means I get to be the one to keep us afloat, plates spinning and all. 

The three of us have brought our unique backgrounds, quirks, and qualities to the table to create something great, and we are so excited for you to join our journey.
